Frequently asked questions

What results can I expect?

For most students, observable and unambiguous change is evident by the end of the main Programme. For some students, use of the Programme tools accompanies a fundamental shift in attitude or maturity; changes of this kind can be more subtle and gradual in nature.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. The Programme costs include the telephone consultation, assessment with a licensed Davis Facilitator, 5-day Programme, up to 6 hours of follow-up time and on-going telephone support. A full kit of resources is provided to support the at-home Programme. If a client needs help with more than one type of learning problem, additional programme days or hours are quoted at fixed rates.

What should I tell my child about the Programme?

By the time many children reach us, they have often developed ‘tutoring fatigue’. So you might want to explain to your child that the Davis Programmes are unlike any other and take a playful, hands-on approach which children enjoy.  Don’t forget to remind your child to wear old clothes as he/she will be working with plasticine clay!

Davis Programmes require willing participation, therefore the child is always in charge of making the final decision to do a Programme. We suggest you reassure your child that this is the case prior to attending an Initial Assessment. Should your child express reluctance even after this reassurance, please alert us to this straight away.

How do I know whether I am dyslexic?

Every dyslexic has a unique combination of symptoms; we have identified 37 common characteristics. You probably have a dyslexic mind if you exhibit about 10 of these traits and behaviours.

“I had especially wanted to contact you at the end of last term to tell you how well N had done. He came 12 in class out of 25 children. At the end of last year he came 24. Quite a jump. He came 11th in English and 6th in both maths and social studies
(history). As you know we have stayed off the ritalin and tried hard to implement the habits of the Davis method. It seems to be paying off”.
